About Us
Our Story
The owner of LaBelle Building is Abel LaBelle, the son of a carpenter and rustic furniture maker, he has been in the building trades all of his life. Born and raised in Maine, he worked his way through college
doing carpentry for professors and then traveled the world for years funded by an assortment of work such as home renovations in Wisconsin, home-building on a Navajo framing crew in Arizona, as lead carpenter on a vineyard estate in California, and doing property
management in Hawaii.
Abel found his way to North Haven through friends and has been been working lobstering and building
here for over a decade. In 2010 he started his own carpentry company on the island and that same year
purchased and began slowly remodeling a small 1910 house in town where he now raises his young family.
LaBelle Building is composed of a small team of carpenters and tradespeople who have a variety of specialties that help in the necessary all-in-one nature of being an island based building company.
Our Capabilities
If you can dream it, we can build it. We have great relationships with foundation, groundwork, and landscape companies, as well as plumbing and electrical professionals. We work with a number of building supply companies, and a few small specialty lumber mills.
It is our aim to be a complete building and design company that streamlines the process. By using trusted
partners, the highest quality materials, and best practices we aim to create projects of quality craftsmanship both on schedule and budget.
We use the very best tool systems in the world, and have both a home base shop and a number of tool and material trailers on North Haven. We are highly portable, and by running a 25ft lobster boat and
generators we can also built in remote locations without electricity. We embrace a challenge, and excel at custom projects for the creative individuals of the islands.
Our Process
We love to meet our clients and go over the project, timeline and budget.We are here to help with ideas and options. We use digital
architectural design software to plan out complex projects and work with the client along the way. We utilize trusted building practices, while
implementing green building and high performance building practices wherever it makes good sense.
It is important to us to maintain constant
lines of communication throughout the process with regular photo updates, descriptions, and thorough invoices which is helpful for individuals that may not be in the area during phases of the building. Our goal is to make sure everything is completed to your satisfaction and strive for success;
a happy client and a well designed, implemented and built product that offers low maintenance and a lifetime of enjoyment.
